Holiday in Huettschlag
Huettschlag was once a mining town. In winter, this is the place to find peace and quiet in the Salzburg region. The holiday program during advent is also something special to experience.
Approximately eight kilometers into the valley passed Grossarl is the town of Huettschlag. A portion of the national park "Hohe Tauern" has been part of the village since 1991. The town is easily reached with the ski bus, with which you can ride to one of the best ski regions: Ski Region Grossarl-Dorfgastein. This area is especially popular for cross-country skiing, winter hiking and alpine touring.
Huettschlag has a population of approximately 950 and is at an elevation of 920 m above sea level. The highest mountain in the area is the Keeskogel at 2882 m. Copper and sulfur was mined here as early as the 14th and 15th centuries. Even today, traces are still to be seen in the tunnels. In recent years, hotels and bed-and-breakfasts have been built but remain very close to nature.
The Huettschlag "Talmuseum" (valley museum) shows the must-see exhibits called "Die Karawane der drei Könige" (caravan of the three Magi) and "100 Jahre Freiwillige Feuerwehr Hüttschlag" (100 years fire brigade Hüttschlag).
Holiday sleigh rides await you in Huettschlag as well as herdsmen games. The performers are local children and laymen. The Talwirt is located a bit further into the valley, where you can watch wild animals.
In Huettschlag you will find peace and relaxation like in no other place. However, you are not far from the many activities in the Grossarl valley. No matter if it is for a day trip to the the Christmas market or a winter holday, Huettschlag welcomes you warmly. Here you can make a non-binding inquiry for hotels and restaurants.
